Max is an alligator

Email sent today from Max's teacher, Lisa:

"The kids are really missing Max. They don't like his empty chair, too much of a reminder I think, so they've taken to putting Larry the stuffed alligator in it. But they call it Max and make sure he has the right folder out, etc when we're working. Interesting how kids grieve... They've also been rereading some of the grief books we've read. Your sweet boy is sorely missed!"

I'm sure Max is very happy with his classmate's selection of his proxy.

Halloween 2006.... sigh!

I should have figured parents as accomplished as Melis and Andy would have super children! They are all so beautiful. Is that an alligator Max has under his shirt?

I clicked on Max's drawing to get a better look at it. I find myself oddly enthralled at all of the little details. The tracer rounds coming from the tail gunner...the stripes on the plane...and my absolute favorite part is the pure joyful smiles on the pilot and gunners faces as they blast away at the Japanese zeros. The steering wheel also cracked me up as well as the hairdo on the pilot and how he seems to be steering the plan with his face! Good stuff and thanks for sharing it as it brought a happy smile to my face.

Awesome Halloween pic. I love that the kids named the alligator Max and it floors me that they make sure he has the right folder out.

Melissa & Andy,

I have a similar photo of Max dressed as a Superhero from the kindergarten class picture. We have it on our fireplace mantle, and nearly everyday Noah walks over to it and says, "Fly Max! Fly!"

We all miss him.

With love,
Leigh
